Frequently Asked Questions

Thinking about visiting First Baptist Church?

Great! We're so glad that you are considering visiting us and we want you to truly enjoy your time with us. That's why we've provided some information about our schedule, campuses, parking, childcare, and small group opportunities.

At First Baptist, we want you to feel at home, to be part of the family. You'll be surrounded by a caring, loving family of friends who will help you and your family grow, sharing the good times, helping you shoulder the tough times. Whether you're a large family or a family of one, we invite you to see what the First Baptist family is all about.

Where are your locations?

What are the main differences between your locations?

First Baptist is one church with multiple locations, and each location has its own identity.

The Downtown Campus is a large campus which holds three morning services, Bible study small groups, and childcare on Sunday mornings. We typically have 2,000+ attendees on a given Sunday morning. A Sunday evening service is held once a month. On Wednesday nights there is something for everyone - the MidPoint Prayer Service, Music, Missions & Discipleship for our children, Youth meeting (called PrimeTime), Discipleship courses, etc.

The West Campus is a smaller campus which holds one morning service, Bible study small groups, and childcare on Sunday mornings. We typically have 200 attendees on a given Sunday morning between the two services. On Wednesday evenings during the school year, there is a place for everyone – Care for adults, RA's & GA's, and PrimeTime for Youth.

The Delta is a group of 20-30-somethings that meets Sunday evenings at 6:00pm in Downtown Simpsonville. The delta is a community gathering place where the exploration of faith and life meet. The delta is not your typical church. We are trying to redefine how church is experienced, while maintaining the foundational principles that started this early revolutionary movement over two thousand years ago. We are seeking to live a life of meaning and purpose that flows out of a passion to intimately know the Creator of the universe.

The Connection Church meets Sunday nights at 6pm in Laurens, SC. The Connection Church seeks to be present in the life of this community as we challenge each other to go deeper in our relationships and are equipped to go further through missional acts of service.

Happy Trails Cowboy Church meets Tuesday evenings at 7pm in Pelzer, SC. This service is designed to meet the needs of those associated with the Equine (horse) industry. However, Happy Trails is open to all who wish to attend. We feature relevant Biblical based teaching in a casual atmosphere along with a variety of music. Casual attire is encouraged.

What about the Worship Services?

First Baptist offers a strong combination of solid biblical teaching and dynamic worship in all of our services...

  • Downtown Campus: Sunday mornings, 8:45am (Blended), 10:00am (Traditional), 11:15am (Contemporary)
  • West Campus: Sunday mornings, 10:00am (Contemporary)
  • The delta: Sunday evenings, 6:00pm (Contemporary)
  • The Connection Church: Sunday evenings, 6:00pm (Contemporary with an acoustic feel)
  • Happy Trails Cowboy Church: Tueday evenings, 7:00pm (Variety)

What about Sunday School or Bible Study Classes?

At First Baptist, we call them "C4 Classes" which stands for Connecting to God, Connecting to Others, Connecting to the Church Body, Connecting to Your World. At the Downtown Campus these classes meet at 8:45am and 10:00am. At the West Campus our C4 classes meet at 11:15am.  An adult class meets at 6pm at Happy Trails Cowboy Church.

What do I wear?

Members and guests to our church on Sunday mornings wear everything from casual to business casual to a suit and tie or dress. Typically, those attending the Downtown 11:15 Contemporary Service, the West Campus Services and The delta dress anywhere from casual to business casual. Nevertheless, come just as you are.

Who is your Pastor?

Randy Harling is our Senior Pastor and he brings the message on Sunday mornings at the Downtown Campus. We are fortunate to have a full staff of teaching pastors who periodically teach on Sunday mornings at our various locations. Matthew Bishop is the West Campus Pastor and brings the message on Sunday mornings at the West Campus. At the Delta there is a rotation of pastors and seminary students who teach.  John Elmore is The Connection Church Pastor, and Zeke Martins is the Associate Pastor.  Doug Jones is the pastor of the Happy Trails Cowboy Church.

Where should I park?

Visitor parking is available at our Downtown and West Campuses. Parking for the delta is available around the building location. CLICK HERE to view the Downtown parking map.

What about my children?

Children are precious at First Baptist and we have a super children's ministry called First Kids. Trained workers will see that your children are loved, nurtured, and cared for while they have fun, make new friends, and learn more about God's love for them.

Our Children's Ministry cares for children from Birth - 5th grade. All of our childcare workers receive background clearances before working with us. Preschoolers (infant - K4) attend Sunday School while their parents attend worship service and C4 classes. For children in grades 1-5, our children's department offers Sunday School classes during the 8:45 & 10:00am service hour Downtown, and at 11:15am at the West Campus. CLICK HERE for our First Kids schedule.

Our Student Ministry serves our youth in grades 6-12 and offers Sunday School class at 10:00am at the Downtown Campus and at 11:15am at the West Campus. For more information about our Student Ministry, D.I.R.T, CLICK HERE.

Is there a class for guests and new members?

Throughout the year, guests and new members are invited to attend our Getting to Know You Dinner and our Discovery class. Our Getting to Know You Dinner is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the church and meet the staff in a small group setting. Dinner is free and childcare is provided. The Discovery class walks participants through discovering their spiritual gifts and personality types, and helps them find a place to use those gifts in talents serving within our church.

How do I join First Baptist Church?

You may present yourself for membership in one of the following ways:

  • Profession of Faith/Baptism: Individuals who profess for the first time that Christ is their Lord and Savior join the church through their profession of faith and are subsequently baptized during one of our worship services.
  • Transfer of Membership: Individuals who are members of another Baptist church can request membership via transfer of their membership to this congregation. The church office, in turn, contacts the other Baptist church for an official recommendation and transfer of membership.
  • Statement of Faith: Individuals who are members of non-Baptist churches can join with acknowledgement of previous baptism by immersion.  Otherwise, baptism will be required for membership.
