Children

The First Kids Ministry at all of our FBCS locations is a discipleship-based ministry designed to help children from birth to 5th grade know God, be able to hear His voice and have the courage to follow Him. Children will embark on their spiritual and developmental journey beginning in the First Step Room and continue to grow and develop a relationship with Jesus until they reach our Student Ministry. We strive to equip families leading children through the process of faith development.

Faith Development Process for Children

Stage 1 – Equipping  Bringing Up Kids: Equipping families in the process of faith development. Parenting session offered once a year.
Stage 2Questioning
As children begin to ask questions, a great resource for parents is a book titled When Can I? by Thomas Sanders.
Stage 3Decided
Once a child has made a profession of faith, any staff member can provide you with Decided, a booklet created by FBCS staff, to assist in guiding children.
Stage 4Follow-Up  To further assist children in their journey, each Spring and Fall a class titled I'm a Christian Now, by Todd Capps and Sherry Shaw, will be offered.
Stage 5Discipleship  Journey- Kids Style is a small group session geared toward the basics of the Christian faith.
Stage 6Witnessing  Friend to Friend: Sharing Jesus is a witnessing course designed to help children confidently and boldly share Jesus with others.
Stage 7Missions  Twice a year, grade-school children will be given the opportunity to participate in a local mission trip.

Foundation

Our foundation is Matthew 22:37-39, which says, "Jesus replied, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" First Kids is designed to help children have an understanding of this verse, to show them the great love that God has for them, and to help them learn to love God and love others.
